Unclaimed Persons
Note: You can search by name, or to search for Unclaimed Persons cases in Colorado, go mid-way down the page and select "Colorado", then click "Search".
When a deceased person's next of kin cannot be located, or if they do not have any living family members, the Coroner or Medical Examiner's Office uploads cases to the NamUs database.
Not all offices utilize NamUs, but many will list unclaimed persons on their website.
Due diligence searches are performed prior to cases being uploaded. There are cases in which next of kin is easily locatable, but they declined to 'claim' the person, so the unclaimed person's profile remains in NamUs.
Most unclaimed people are already buried or cremated. When a person's next of kin contacts the Coroner or Medical Examiner's office, it is usually so they can provide the next of kin with details surrounding the person's passing, and whether they have been buried or cremated and where the person's remains are located.
